Ice Breaking

Yesterday we saw the girls and at first they were doing well and they brought us to Boris. Then Irina came (our translator), took mom and the girls to Turkistan and then later Dad and us where there were all these places to play. Olesya was OK but then Angela was walking by herself. I went to her and asked if she was OK but she couldn't understand me. Then Mom wanted to talk to both of them while Kenny, Josh and I were off playing tag.

After the talk Mom said that their teacher and friends are wanting her to stay which made me kind of mad because after the orphanage they will just get kicked and be alone by theirselves. I am scared that the girls might stay behind, but it is their decision.

  1. Oh Matthew, my heart is breaking for you too. You guys have been such great kids for your mum and dad and will be so good for the girls. I am hoping and praying with my whole heart that they will see that love you give them and that that will win out.
    Huge hugs

  2. Matthew,
I'm sorry to hear things have been unexpectedly rough. It sounds like you've been very empathetic toward Angela and Olesya. I understand your fear for the girls.. and I hope they take the leap of faith to become part of your family. Thanks for keeping us updated, and for sharing your feelings.

  3. Matthew,
I'm glad you are there with your parents to get to know your sisters. I understand and agree with your frustration with the orphanage workers for trying to persuade Angela to stay. Hopefully the more time the girls spend with your family, the more comfortable they will feel. I imagine this is a hard decision for them since they have just met your family. I hope you and your brothers are having fun on your adventure.

  5. Hi Matthew,

I am very sorry that your sisters seem to be fearful of joining your family. Try to remember how you feel when you are afraid. Maybe the best thing you can do for them is to extend your friendship to them. They will see that all of the LaJoy boys are gracious, bright young gentlemen.

I think playing Uno was a good idea, in fact, we bought a set of Uno cards last weekend in anticipation of travelling to meet our boys. We tried to think of games that we could play that would not require English. We also got them Jenga - blocks that you stack into a tower & take turns pulling out until the tower falls. We also got them Battleship & figured we could add the cyrillic alphabet letters over ours. We have a travel Connect 4 game that we will take along with Uno when we travel.

I hope that you guys will be able to go to some games that the girls will play while you are there. I know that the LaJoys will be their loudest cheering section!

Best wishes & lots of prayers heading your way!
    From your Utah friends

I was adopted from Petropavlovsk and I am 12. Tell the girls they can do sports in America and live in a family too. Tell them what it is like to live in a family. I still talk to my friends who I lived with in the orphanage, and so can they if they go to America.

  7. Dear Matt,
I think that if they come home you guys will be great brothers. That was extremely nice of you to try to make Angela feel better about things. Your a great brother for Kenny and Josh and if the girls come home you'll be a great brother to them, too.

  8. Dear Matt,

I am sorry to hear things are a bit rough right now, but be supportive to the girls. God works in mysterious ways and I know the love and support of "Team LaJoy" will guide you and your family. Enjoy the time you are having with the girls and the experience you are having.

  9. Hey Matt,

Mr Steve and I are reading Mom's blog and your blog each day. It must be fun to be doing your schoolwork there.

This is an exciting adventure to be back in Kazakhstan. We know that you are sad for the girls. This is a difficult time for all of you.

We had snow earlier in the week but it is too cold for Mr Steve to make snow angels. :-) It was -4 degrees this morning.

We miss you so much and pray for all of Team LaJoy AND the girls.

    Much Love,
    Mr Steve and Miss Jane
